Johan Hemelaere developed his financial expertise in the Netherlands during the 1980s, a time when investing was still considered avant-garde. After a fifteen-year career as a sales manager in the medical sector, he chose to work voluntarily and unpaid at the renowned Amsterdam brokerage firm Stroeve, where he immersed himself in portfolio management. Horatius became the first company in Belgium to receive a license from the Banking Commission (FSMA) as a recognized asset manager. This followed the passing of a law on December 5, 1990, aimed at modernizing the sector. From the very beginning, only discretionary asset management contracts were offered to clients.

Horatius Life is relocating to Luxembourg and acquiring a license to actively offer private bank insurance across all EU countries. Additionally, the name of Horatius Life will be changed to CRM Services.
2010
The shares of the BFO group were sold to the management.

Horatius NV was converted into a cooperative and shifted its purpose exclusively to managing its own assets.

Horatius Consult was transformed into the Belgian Family Office (BFO) and became a highly successful group after obtaining licenses as a real estate agent and credit broker.

Horatius, born in Venusia on December 8, 65 BC, and deceased in Rome on November 27, 8 BC, was a renowned Roman poet. As a young man, Horatius received an exceptional education, first under his teacher Orbilius and later in Athens, where he immersed himself in Greek culture and philosophy.
After a brief military career, during which he reached the rank of staff officer, he ultimately settled in Rome as a literate man and secured a position at the treasury. Over time, managing both private and public assets became second nature to him. Horatius excelled in everything he undertook, both in his role as a civil servant and later as a full-time poet.
